A proposed project to deepen the Sabine-Neches Waterway from 40 to 48 feet is expected to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs, generate billions of dollars in economic impact and enhance U.S. trade infrastructure. With billions of dollars in energy-related investments along the waterway, including the nation’s largest oil refinery, two announced multi-billion dollar LNG export facilities and huge investments in area refineries and chemical plants, the Sabine-Neches Waterway must expand to meet the growing transportation needs of these and future businesses. Current industry related sectors supported by the waterway annually generate more than 288,000 permanent jobs and more than $32 billion in gross product in the United States. The waterway has not been improved since 1962 – more than 50 years ago. The proposed deepening project ensures this economic engine maintains its momentum and Jefferson County, Texas and the United States continue to enjoy the benefits.
