SNND promotes and supports the maintenance of the Sabine-Neches Waterway in order to facilitate and sustain commerce in the ship channel for Southeast Texas and the nation.
SNND is constantly working to maximize the efficiency of the waterway. The navigation district provides dredge-spoil placement areas for levee construction and easement/lease maintenance. SNND also manages periodic channel improvement projects to keep the waterway competitive with other U.S. ports.
All kinds of businesses operate along the waterway, such as military, energy and petrochemical. These businesses transport hundreds of products through the ship channel, including natural gas, jet fuel, gasoline, crude oil and chemicals. Each year, about 71,000 vessel transits and more than 100 million tons of cargo move through the waterway.
